Important information about the coronavirus (COVID-19)

The NHS in Wakefield and Public Health England (PHE) are well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to protect patients, our community and NHS staff while ensuring as many services as possible are available to the public.

If you have symptoms associated with coronavirus including a new continuous cough and a high temperature, you are advised to stay at home for 7 days.

Please do not book a GP appointment or attend your GP practice.

If you live with other people, they should stay at home for at least 14 days, to avoid mspreading the infection outside the home. After 14 days, anyone you live with who does not have symptoms can return to their normal routine.

But, if anyone in your home gets symptoms, they should stay at home for 7 days from the day their symptoms start. Even if it means they're at home for longer than 14 days. The most up-to-date public guidance is always online at www.nhs.uk/coronavirus

If your symptoms are serious, or get worse, NHS 111 has an online coronavirus service that can tell you if you need further medical help and advise you what to do.

Only call 111 direct if you are advised to do so by the online service or you cannot go online.

During this time if you have any other medical needs please contact the surgery by telephone and your health needs will be assessed – this may lead to a face to face consultation if needed.

CORONAVIRUS

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING CHANGES TO THE APPOINTMENT SYSTEM

Due to the ongoing situation with Coronavirus, we are taking measures in line with guidance shared by NHS England and Public Health authorities to minimise risks associated with the virus.
In order to protect our patients and staff and we are asking our patients support with this.

What does this mean for you?

Appointments:
We are asking all patients not to attend the practice without prior agreement from a member of our clinical team.  From Monday 16th March 2020 we want to minimise the number of patients attending the Practice for face to face appointments.  This means that all patients are required to contact the practice by telephone to request an appointment, providing details of their need.  A member of the clinical team will then phone you back to discuss your need, and wherever possible this need will be met over the telephone.  If the clinician deems that you require a face to face appointment, you will be asked some screening questions to determine whether there is a need for a coronavirus assessment. If this is the case you will be asked to self-isolate for 7 days.  If there is no risk you will be given a face to face appointment.

Existing appointments:
All pre-existing appointments are being reviewed by the clinical team. If it is deemed that your appointment is not urgent this may be cancelled and re-scheduled at a later date by the Practice.  If the appointment needs to go ahead, wherever possible this will take place over the telephone.  If your appointment is being cancelled or changed to telephone, our administrative team will contact you to advise you of this.  If the appointment needs to be face to face you will be contacted prior the appointment and asked some screening questions to ensure it is appropriate for you to attend the Practice.

Access to the Surgery
Access to the building will be restricted to the patients who have been invited for an appointment by a Clinician.
Anyone who attempts to gain access to the surgery who has not been invited will be asked to leave the premises.
Only the patient with the appointment will be allowed into the building.  
For children, only one parent/guardian will be allowed to accompany the child.

Prescriptions
Paper requests for repeat prescriptions have temporarily been suspended, again to avoid the spread of the virus and you will not be able to collect your prescription from the surgery.  We will  electronically send the prescription to your nominated pharmacy.  
To order a repeat prescription, please either:

• Telephone the surgery between the hours of 11:00 at 18:00
• Request online.  If not registered please contact the surgery to register for online services.
• Email the request to: wakccg.tievetara@nhs.net

Remember to use the hand sanitiser provided when entering the building or wash your hands in the patient toilets.

Please remain courteous to our staff at all times, any incidents of verbal or physical abuse will result in removal from the practice list.

This is a very challenging time for us all and we would appreciate your co-operation during this period of uncertainty.

Category 1: Travellers should self-isolate, even if asymptomatic, and call NHS 111 to inform of recent travel. Go home or to your destination and then self isolate.

Category 2: Travellers do not need to undertake any special measures, but if they develop symptoms they should self-isolate and call NHS 111.

Returning travellers

Stay indoors and avoid contact with other people immediately if you’ve travelled to the UK from:

Hubei province in China in the last 14 days, even if you do not have symptoms

Iran, lockdown areas in northern Italy or special care zones in South Korea since 19 February, even if you do not have symptoms

other parts of mainland China or South Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan or Thailand in the last 14 days and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild)

other parts of northern Italy (anywhere north of Pisa, Florence and Rimini), Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar or Vietnam since 19 February and have a cough, high temperature or shortness of breath (even if your symptoms are mild)

SHINGLES VACCINATIONS - 70 AND 79 YEAR OLDS

The practice will be also be giving the shingles vaccine this year to the patients who fall into the correct category (this is determined by date of birth).  If you wish to know if you are in the group to receive the vaccine this year you can contact the surgery and we will let you know.

Access & Parking

The medical centre premises have been designed to accommodate the needs of the disabled and mothers with young children. There is a disabled toilet and baby changing facilities on your right as you enter on the ground floor. A disabled toilet is also located on the first floor which is accessible by lift or stairs. A disabled toilet and baby changing facilities can also be found in the health visitors and district nurses area.

There is ample car parking available at the medical centre; please do not park in the area designated for staff. If you have any difficulty with access please tell reception.

NHS 111  Is  a new service that has been introduced to make it easier for you to access local NHS healthcare services in England. You can call 111 when you need medical help and advice fast, but it's not a life threatening situation. NHS 111 is a fast and easy way to get the right help, whatever the time. The service is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Calls are free from landlines and mobile phones.

Call 111 if:

  • you need medical help fast but it's not a 999 emergency
  • you think you need to go to A&E or need another NHS urgent care service
  • you don't know who to call or you don't have a GP to call
  • you need health information or reassurance about what to do next

How Information About You Helps Us To Provide Better Care

Confidential information from your medical records can be used by the NHS to improve the services offered so we can provide the best possible care for everyone. This information along with your postcode and NHS number but not your name, are sent to a secure system where it can be linked with other health information.This allows those planning NHS services or carrying out medical research to use information from different parts of the NHS in a way which does not identify you.

NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice is publicised, and the required disclosure is shown below.

However it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of

how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make

any comparison with any other practice.

All GP Practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to

deliver NHS services to patients at each practice.

The average pay for GPs working in Tieve Tara Medical Centre during the year ended 31 March 2018 was

 £                 40,962

before tax and national insurance. This is for 1 full time GP, 3 part time GPs and 0 locum GPs

who worked in the practice for more than 6 months.
